The "Others"

The "OTHER" Family Members, because normally they are blog neglected!

What's a Vol?

A VOL is short for Volunteer, as in Tennessee is the Volunteer State and in our case the mascot for the University of Tennessee Volunteers, better known as, you guessed it, a "VOL".

On July 16th 2010 Chris and I discovered (via three different tests) that we were pregnant with our first child. After nearly peeing ourselves with excitement and terror, we immediately began discussing ways to tell our parents and my little brother that we were pregnant with their first grandchild and neice/nephew. Everything in our life is a family affair. Chris literally proposed marriage to me in front of  his parents, my parents and my brother. That is how family oriented we are. So, we knew it had to be something with everyone there.

Ultimately we decided to invite everyone over to smoke a pork butt. We ordered custom Jone's Soda bottles in orange. The label was a picture of Chris and I proudly displaying our PREGNANT EPT. It was called "It's a Vol Orange Soda". The ingredients section very cleverly said something about adding another member to our family, and we knew one thing: It's a Vol. We planned to pass them out while we were smoking the pork butt and see the excitement and shock on everyone's faces.

Haha. God had other plans. A little over one week later on the way to the lake, we stopped at a gas station so I could go pee. I was bleeding. I panicked and called the OBGYN who immediately said go to the ER. So, instead of fun soda bottles our family got a blubbering phone call telling them that we were on our way to the ER, pregnant, but bleeding. Again, our life is a family affair.

Needless to say, everything turned out just fine. Evie popped out 39 weeks later.

Evie is a she, and she is also a Vol!

About Me

Hello. My name is Sarah. I am the voice behind this blog. I was a competitive cheerleader in High School, so I over use exclamation marks. It's just the way I am -- excited! See?
I am wife to Christopher and first time mom to Evie.  She is everything and nothing that we expected.

We've made it through the first year and are loving being toddler parents!

We are proud of our Southern heritage. Not in the way that says "The South will rise again!", but in a way that sees no color, speaks slowly and softly, knows the value of saying Sir & Ma'am, understands that there is an art to making sweet tea and knows that in order of importance it is God, Family and Football.

You can read Evie's Birth Story here.

You can read our Love Story here.

I am also mom to four dogs and two cats. The saying, "Dog hair: both a fashion accessesory and a condiment!" is truer than I'd like to believe in my house.
I am a survivor of Post Partum Depression and Anxiety. Visit my resources tab for some great links and to read my story. Don't hesitate to contact me if you just need an understanding ear, even if I've never talked to you before. No one makes it through this disease alone. We get better because someone stood by us every step of the way to recovery.

I originally started this blog as a way for friends and family to keep up with our pregnancy. It has grown into more.

We are trying to do the best for our daughter right now, right where we are, with what we have.

I think we are doing a pretty good job at it.

Welcome to our world. Stick around and say hey, y'all!
