Stay Classy San Diego

So now that I'm back I can tell you, I flew to southern California last Thursday and spent the long weekend with my best friend from college, Alycia, her family and one of our other best friends from college.

Back in July, Alycia's sister got in contact me and asked if I wanted to fly out to CA to surprise her for her thirtieth birthday. I was like heck yeah! So for a month and a half now I've sat on this huge secret. I've avoided calling and texting her because I knew I would spill the beans. I didn't even blog about it just in case she happened to read about it, which is why I had to keep it a secret from y'all!

So we spent the entire weekend in a little place called Dana Point. It's about an hour north of San Diego and absolutely gorgeous. We stayed at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and really just enjoyed hanging out with each other. For four days it was like being back in college, you know minus the alcohol. We giggled over The Hills marathon on MTV, read fashion and gossip magazines and stayed up laughing over times we remembered and times we had forgotten.

Friday we spent the day lounging at the pool, enjoyed cocktail hour on the veranda and a delicious dinner and cake in celebration of Alycia's birthday. Saturday we went whale watching in the morning, and spent the rest of the day laying in bed watching TV and ordering room service. Sunday we went shopping at Fashion Island and had an amazing dinner at Stonehill Tavern. Then, alas, it was Monday and time to go home. I was sad to leave my friends but super excited to see my hubby and baby.

It was a great weekend and although I had some anxiety over going I am so glad that I did. This was the first time since 2007 that I have taken a weekend for just me and why you haven't heard from me in almost a week. I made a deliberate decision to unplug myself for the weekend. I didn't call for guest posters and I stayed off of Twitter and our Facebook page. I needed that for myself: to not worry about the blog, or replies or stats. I needed to just be with my friends. So I was.

I also didn't bring my Nikon so here is my weekend via iPhone.

{You can imagine what our bathroom in college looked like...}

{We used to do this all the time in college! Maggee is the eye-makeup master!}

{Sunset view from cocktail hour!}

{We went whale watching and since I was afraid of dropping my phone in the ocean, this is what I got. But isn't the Pacific beautiful?}

 P.S. I'd also like to point out that my husband rocked it as a single dad this past weekend. It was his first overnight alone with Evie and he did an amazing job. He even cloth diapered while I was gone. He is one dedicated father and husband, that man.
P.P.S. I realize I wasn't actually in San Diego. But that's where I was told we were going originally so that is what stuck in my head, so that's why I titled this post as I did.

P.P.P.S. I also got sick just before I left (bronchitis sinus infection) so I 've been recovering from that as well. I promise to get caught up on your blogs soon!
