Wordless Wednesday: Tree Insanity

Since we have been married Chris and I have always had a lovely eight foot pre-lit tree. It's had gorgeous white lights and has always been decked out with ornaments. Christmas of 2010 a few sections started crapping out on us and last year there were even more, so at the end of the season we pitched our tree. This year we decided we wanted a live tree, and I totally made my husband buy a twelve and a half foot monster somehow we ended up with a 12.5 foot tree, covered in 2000 colored lights. It's awesome, and I love it.

Have you put your tree up yet? Do you love it?

Hey Santa!

Ok so now that we're all done respecting the bird I can finally post my Christmas wish list! Attention Husband: (hint hint).

1) Erin Condren Life Planner. I am so convinced that I need one of these! I love the Zen Gems pattern!

2) Wicked Good Women's Moccasin's from LL Bean in brown (size six if you were wondering).

3) Nikon 18-105 Lens. Dream lens would be the 18-200. While we are on the subject of cameras I'd love a Nikon D90 too! Ah, if only money grew on trees!

4) Speaking of a new camera, a strap cover like this one from Gussy Sews would be awesome! (PS -- family and friends and lovely blog readers alike a little bird told me that you can get free shipping using code MASHEDPOTATOES until November 30th!).

5) A a gift card from Lipstick Shades for a Monogrammed Otterbox for my iPhone 5! It's currently naked and I need a case (and yes I am very careful with it!).

What are you wishing for this Christmas/ Holiday Season?

Respecting the Bird!

So I've got like about ten million Christmas posts to share with y'all, however, I have to post my Thanksgiving recap first, because I am type A like that. Plus, I'm pretty strict about respecting the bird, although I may have cheated and listened to a wee bit of Christmas music and sneaked in one Gingerbread latte before Thursday. What can I say? I'm a rebel.

We had a great Thanksgiving. We've been spending Thanksgiving up at Pickwick lake the past few years. Chris' grandmother is in a nursing home about twenty minutes away. We spend the night at Chris' parents lakehouse on Wednesday night and this allows Chris, Chris' mom and dad, Evie and me to go visit her on Thanksgiving. This year she had a great day! She was smiling and talking. She even asked to hold Evie and called her sweetie pie! I won't go into the details of her illness, but let's just say this was HUGE. We all walked out with huge smiles on our faces.

Aftwewards we went to my parents' lakehouse to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Other than some issues with the turkey fryer not working (but don't you worry the men rigged it up) we had a great day, and it was all smooth sailing. Dinner was delicious, dessert was fantastic (I made it so of course it was) and we all left the table happy and a bit too full!

Evie and I spent the night with my parents that night and headed back in the morning. Even though I am married now with a kid, there is still something special about waking up in the same house as your parents and sibling. It's almost like being a kid again, especially when your mom takes your toddler outside to play and you get ten minutes a peace to enjoy a cup of coffee! Win!

So, Thanksgiving 2012 is in the books. It went down as a great one! Until next year Mr. Turkey!

Wordless Wednesday: ZOO!

One of the very best things about buying a membership pass to The Memphis Zoo is that on a Thursday Chris can look at his phone, check the weather and say, "Hey, it's gonna be really nice on Saturday, wanna take Evie to the zoo?", and off we go!

This past Saturday the weather was perfect for a Zoo outing. It was cool in the morning and warm and sunny in the afternoon. It was that perfect temperature where you don't need a jacket or coat. We had a great time eating lunch and hanging out. The Fall foliage was beautiful, especially since we don't usually get Fall colors here due to our overly hot Julys and Augusts. This year's milder late Summer temperatures have given us a gorgeous Fall though. A few of the more exciting exhibits like the Giraffe Feeding Adventure have been closed for the season, but that's ok because all of the Christmas decorations are up! When you first walk into the zoo there is a giant stone hippo with a Santa hat! Evie was so enamored with him. We taught her to say Hippo, but of course she says, "Bupbo" instead (which is just about the most adorable thing ever). So, of course our first stop of the day was in the gift shop so her Daddy could spoil her with a new stuffed animal, a bupbo named Harriet!

{Evie & Harriet the Hippo!}

{We talked up the monkeys all week & she was so excited to see them! She kept hollering muh-key!}

{Zebras & Ostrich in The African Veldt!}

{Totem Pole outside of The Northwest Passage!}

{Beautiful Fall Colors!}

{Our trip through Teton Trek!}

{Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to ride the ferris wheel!}

{It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!}
