Momma Said

It was clear that Monday was a rough day for my baby. Potty training has been going really well for us and part of that routine is to bring her immediately to the potty after we get home from daycare. On Monday though she wanted to climb all over the potty and pull her pants up and down and play. When I told her that the potty was not a jungle gym she threw a full on temper tantrum complete with kicking and hitting fueled by toddler rage. Swell.

So I did what I always do, I picked her up and put her in her crib and told her to cool down and I would come check on her in a minute. This isn't a time out; this is a chance for her to collect herself and calm her emotions in a safe environment. Five minutes later I opened her door and was greeted by my happy baby who hugged me, told me she was sorry and that she needed to go pee pee.

We've stopped giving her stickers and potty treats for pee pee and she only gets them now for poops. However, it was clear that in some way for Evie Monday had been a rough day. Tantrums are not uncommon in our house but they aren't usually that bad. After we washed her hands I asked her if she needed a bite of chocolate. She said yes (like she would say no) and the two of us enjoyed a Milky Way bite in the hallway while we grinned at each other.

The lesson I learned that day: Some days will suck but chocolate with your momma helps it not suck quite so much.
